FUNDRAISING DRIVE FOR BAILEY HOUSE
Drop boxes set up in 54th Street store. Money raised to
help homeless New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS NEW YORK, NY – June 10, 2004 – Westerly Natural Market, a purveyor of organic produce and natural foods for 37 years, has launched a fundraising drive for Bailey House, New York’s oldest AIDS housing provider.
As part of the drive, Westerly Natural Market, located at 8th Avenue and 54th Street, has assembled drop boxes throughout the store to collect donations from customers. The store is also offering information on Bailey House’s services and mission. In addition, all customers calling Westerly will hear pre-recorded informational messages about Bailey House.
Founded 20 years ago, Bailey House (http://www.baileyhouse.org/) is one of the nation‘s first organizations to provide housing for homeless people living with HIV / AIDS. Built on the premise that a future starts with a place to live, Bailey House offers housing and supportive services for individuals in both residential and scatter-site apartment settings throughout New York City. Since its founding, Bailey House has:
• provided housing and other services to more than 6,000 people
• trained hundreds of individuals through its comprehensive vocational education program
• provided mental health and substance abuse intervention and counseling
• supplied training and technical assistance to community-based HIV/AIDS organizations around the world
• developed partnerships with AIDS advocates and organizations in South Africa
